Frequently Asked Questions

WHY ACUPUNCTURE?

First I should explain why I chose to study acupuncture. I was introduced to traditional Chinese medicine theory by lectures and presentations in a massage class I was taking in Oakland, California around 1995. Acupuncture seemed a perfect system to learn. It made sense to me. One of my greatest loves is gardening and I see acupuncture as an extension of my way to understand the natural world around me. I also saw that I would be able to use traditional Chinese medicine as a simple and easy system to explain to clients or patients why they had pain or other health conditions.

WHAT HEALTH CONDITIONS DO YOU WORK WITH? DO YOU HAVE A SPECIALTY?

The joy of being in this health profession is the information we have available to us. Health is my work! There are aspects of health I do enjoy working with. Traditional Chinese medicine includes acupuncture and moxibustion, Chinese herbs, nutrition, exercises such as Taiji and Qi Gong, meditation, and Tui Na massage, all very useful tools for improving one's health. I continue to train in my profession and it is not purely Chinese influences. Recently I have been studying western nutrition as it relates to the American diet.

I have worked with such health conditions involving respiratory conditions, pain, emotions, gynecological conditions, insomnia, skin, digestion and also more complicated health problems. It is the patient or client needs combined with my listening skills that determine the outcome and possibilities in our partnership as a team.

DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE? WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY FIRST VISIT?

I do not bill for insurance at this time. I have superbills available that you may present to your insurance or medical savings plan for reimbursement for your payment of services. Not all health insurance plans cover acupuncture and it will depend on your own plan. I have experience with insurance billing and I am happy to assist you further.

An initial visit is required before using my services such as acupuncture. During the initial visit I will review your health history with you and discuss the reason for your visit. Acupuncture may or may not be included with the initial visit.

Expect to spend 1-2 hours at my office. Please inform me of your special needs or concerns at anytime before or during your visits.
