I have had some fortunate experiences of living very close to the land which I think has influenced me to this present day. In the late 70's I drove with my mom from Wisconsin to coastal Maine to rent an unbelievably low-rent Cape Anne house with woodburning stove, outhouse, a well, and on 40 acres with about 4 cleared of wood and just field.
Before I had moved to Maine with my mom I had apprenticed the summer before through the MOFGA-Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association, with the Sabbathday Lake Shakers and worked their herb gardens. It was the walks we took mostly in the woods to identify plants that had the most influence on me. What I once saw as just brush and plants became identifiable and interesting.
After a couple years of living in Maine I had moved to Boston and completed my BFA at the Massachusetts College of Art, and on graduating in 1985, holding 2 jobs that summer, saved 2 or 3,000 dollars to move to San Francisco.
I was married in 1991 and on returning to the Bay Area after 1 year living in Flagstaff, Arizona, I think it was then I felt settled in my life. I was ready for this next step connecting more to my own body and health. My former herb and gardening experiences were to connect to me again as I took on the vast amounts of studying of Chinese herbology while in acupuncture school.
Diplomate in Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in 2008.
Licensed in the State of California as an acupuncturist, March 2004.
Masters in Science of Oriental Medicine at Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College, Berkeley, CA in 2003.
On receiving my acupuncture license in March 2004, I became staff-person at acupuncturist, Leslie Oldershaw's clinic in Piedmont, CA for over 3 years. See links page for more information about her.
Before I attended acupuncture school, I worked for four years at the Shen Clinic, a Chinese herb pharmacy in Berkeley.
